This week's creations.......

This week sees three cakes leave Wish Cake's front door.  The first is a boxing ring cake.  The first time I've been asked to make such a cake and it's certainly does qualify as the type of cake I like to make.

I've deliberated over the best way to create the ropes, and, after much deliberation, feel that using ribbon or thin cord is probably going to be the best way to achieve a decent finish.  I don't like using sweets on cakes and I know that a lot of cake makers use liquorice for the ropes, but, to me, this enters into the "sweets on cakes" situation, and this is something I really don't want to do!

The second cake, is a large sugar shoe, placed on top of a leopard print cake.  The shoe has taken a lot of time to dry and so has had to be made upfront a couple of weeks ago.  Getting the glitter to "stick" to the shoe has been a bit of a mean feat, but I've managed it!  I've been told by the customer that the Chavvier the cake is, the better.  This is a bit like holding a red rag to a bull, so I'm really looking forward to making it as glitzy and, dare I say it, tacky, as possible.

Finally, a 12" square cake will hold a chocolate cake stable along with tractor, horses, cats and whatever else I think to put on the top of this cake.  This is for a very special customer who has been coming back to me for several years.  Due to a holiday I am taking, she has actually moved her daughter's birthday party to a week earlier so that I can make her cake.  Originally, she had told me that she would find someone else to make it.  A couple of weeks later, she came back to me and said that she couldn't find anyone who creates cakes like me, and so re-scheduled the whole event!  To say that I am flattered would be an understatement!

Well, readers, the oven timer is calling, so I must away....

How time flies......

The past couple of years have found Wish Cakes so busy that the blogging has been left behind in a flurry of Eggs, Flour, Sugar and Butter!  Now the summer holidays are upon us, again, it leaves me with a little more time to update my followers on the array of cakes which have been created over the last two or so years.

From sugar shoes and handbags to life size TV's and micro pigs it certainly has been a time of creativity!  I have, once again, been asked to create a cake for the SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators) for their November Conference in Winchester Guildhall.  I also hope to be offering Cake Decorating Classes in September.  So, there are many exciting times ahead.

I was also contacted by Craftseller Magazine who published an article about Wish Cakes.  I also had a publication in Cakes and Sugarcraft Magazine which is run by Squires Kitchen in Farnham.

With Facebook now as an excellent marketing tool, I have a page for Wish Cakes

 https://www.facebook.com/pages/Wish-Cakes/108612095873928

I find time to upload most of my pictures on a week by week basis to this page as my website proves a little harder and more time consuming to update.

It's all positive in Wish Cakes' kitchen and hopefully time will allow some more blogging on future events and cakes!

Thank you for reading and happy baking!

Below is a small selection of what I have been working on over the past couple of years...more can be found at  http://www.wishcakes.co.uk/
